On 2 July, Edumundo hosted a webinar exploring how higher education institutions can give students meaningful access to AI tools whilst ensuring genuine learning still takes place. The session addressed the growing challenge of cognitive offloading, where students increasingly use AI to produce answers rather than develop understanding, and the performance paradox this creates between short-term results and durable knowledge.
Led by Leon Lloyd, the session introduced a new approach already being used in universities, including a live demonstration of how educators can build personalised, Socratic AI conversations using their own course content, aligned to Bloom's taxonomy and integrated with existing learning management systems.
The webinar offered insights into scaling formative assessment across large cohorts, tracking student understanding in real time, and using AI to deepen learning rather than replace it.
