Experiential Learning on Capstone Courses

Webinar Summary

In this webinar we discussed how business simulations can be used as effective experiential learning tools on capstone projects. Our guest speaker, Cheryl Bryant, Instructor at Assiniboine Community College gave insight into how she prepares students for employment through the experiential learning experience of business simulations. There was also a strong focus on the financial skills that students develop during the game through the comparison of the results of their decisions round by round. A walk through the Phone Ventures Business Simulation was given towards the end of the webinar.

Participants had opportunities throughout the webinar to have their questions answered directly in the chat and elaborated on by Cheryl and Megan. Particularly interesting questions about how the gamification of a business course could be implemented for a specific courses or subjects were given by he audience. The common denominator for all participants were the employability skills and the value of students developing their own professional identities as they took on different roles as part of the gamification of their course.
