Overview

Dr. Robert Kerr has been using business simulations at postgraduate level for nearly four years. His 'Foundations in Management' module uses the ProSim Advanced simulation where teams of students manage their own Sports company. Here they need to assess the business environment and make informed decisions in order to increase sales, improve their stock market ranking, and gain overall market share.

WHY DID YOU CONSIDER USING business SIMULATIONS?

“The module went through a revalidation process where previously we used to provide a similar, live, hands-on business exercise but it was difficult to administer over a 12 week module. We felt an online business simulation was another option; they're realistic and able to provide learning opportunities. We explored a few simulations before deciding upon Edumundo."

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE EDUMUNDO?

"The open responsiveness and the ability for the simulation to be tailored and adapted to the module itself. There was a really good fit with the management simulation and the learning goals and overall outcomes on the module."

What was the outcome at the end of the simulation?

“By the end of the simulation, students could position academic theory in real-world contexts and understand the importance of operations such as supply-chain management, HR, marketing. It doesn’t cover in-depth but it’s a fantastic starter to get people to really understand the different aspects of business and the roles and decisions managers have to make and why they need to make them.”

How Were Students Assessed On The Module?

“Students delivered a presentation discussing the theories and approaches they took in the simulation and the rationale behind the decisions they made during each round. This culminated in an overall evaluation of their company’s performance on the simulation.”

What Feedback Have You Received From Your Students?

"I haven’t heard anything negative about it. Students are very positive and often state they found it useful in their module feedback forms.”
